VR Cinema — Immersive Non-Fiction

The VR Cinema presents a curated programme of four internationally recognised immersive works that use virtual and mixed reality to explore perception, identity, memory, sound and scale. These experiences invite audiences to step inside stories that unfold around them—where listening, spatial presence and interaction are central to how meaning is created.

On the Morning You Wake (to the End of the World) is a powerful, immersive documentary that responds to the 2018 ballistic missile alert in Hawai’i, placing audiences inside a moment of collective fear, responsibility, and reflection. Goliath: Playing with Reality explores mental health, online identity and schizophrenia through a richly layered VR environment that challenges assumptions about what is “real.” Impulse uses mixed reality to translate the lived experience of ADHD into a responsive, domestic-scale environment that blends the virtual with the physical world.

Body of Mine offers an intimate exploration of embodiment, gender and self-perception, inviting participants to experience a body different from their own through careful interaction and testimony. Spheres: Chorus of the Cosmos uses spatial sound and vast visual scale to immerse audiences in the hidden rhythms of the universe, transforming scientific knowledge into a deeply sensory experience.

The VR Cinema will be hosted in the Bugatti HyperStudio and is free and open to all. Advance booking is recommended to guarantee a time slot, though walk-up access will be available where possible. Due to demand and the time-based nature of the works, short waiting times may occur during busy periods.

Together, these five works showcase the emotional, educational and artistic potential of immersive storytelling, offering a rare opportunity to experience some of the most influential VR pieces of recent years in a shared, in-person setting.
